Clinton Says US Should Use 'Smart Power' With Diplomacy in Lead |

Senator Clinton said if she is confirmed she would improve United States relations with its allies. She said she would use smart power diplomacy to deal with Israel security needs as well as the Palestinian political and economic goals. Ms. Clinton also said President-elect Obama and his team are greatly concerned about the actions of Iran’s government. She said the Obama administration will seek a new policy toward Iran and that no plan of action has been rejected. |

Visible across a narrow path of Asia, the eclipse traveled through parts of India, China and Japan. It began at dawn in India where tens of thousands gathered for a dip in the Ganges to pray to the sun as it emerged from behind the moon. Hundreds of enthusiasts wore goggles to catch a glimpse of the phenomenon.In China, emotions ran high among those gathered along a river bank in Chongqing to witness it. |

Koreans Protest Dog-Eating |

About 20 protesters gathered in downtown Seoul to demand the government abolish the tradition of eating dog meat. With elaborate costumes and props, the animal-lovers shouted slogans during a downpour to convince more Koreans to give up the canine cuisine. "Dogs and cats are not livestock, but they are our partners. They are not food, but they are our friends. We should abolish the bad habits of eating dogs or cats."

Androulla Vassiliou is the EU’s health commissioner. She told news reporters in Belgium on Tuesday that every European should have full protection from tobacco smoke. She said there is an increase in public support for anti-smoking measures among EU member countries. Britain and Ireland have the toughest anti-smoking measures in the European Union. |
