(Reuters) – Microsoft puts a new spin on innovation - with the Imagine Cup 2011. This year's challenge for the 300,000 college students from around the globe: how to solve some of the world's toughest problems using technology. The finalists gathered in New York City Friday to present their solutions and meet with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who sang their praises as future tech leaders.

"These students, with the kind of talent they have, the energy the experience with technology, I think, these are students from around the world who are going to have absolutely no problem not only getting a job but maybe starting their own companies and creating their own jobs."

The students are already reporting success: a hospital in Singapore is running technology created by a team from Singapore which individually assesses the rehabilitation needs of stroke victims. And, the government in Tanzania plans to test run software created by the German team - which maps and evaluates water resources.

"We have an application for the Windows Phone 7 where we can capture data about water resources."

Winners will be announced on Wednesday.

Microsoft lấy yếu tố cải tiến làm điểm nhấn cho cuộc thi Imagine Cup 2011. Thử thách năm nay dành cho 300.000 sinh viên đạihọc trên toàn cầu là làm thế nào để giải quyết được những vấn đề nan giải của thế giới thông qua việc sử dụng công nghệ. Những thí sinh vào vòng chung kết tề tựu về thành phố New York hôm thứ Sáu để trình bày các giải pháp và diện kiến Steve Ballmer, CEO của Microsoft đồng thời là người vinh danh họ như những nhà lãnh đạo công nghệ tương lai.

"Tôi cho rằng những sinh viên với tài năng vốn có, nghị lực và kinh nghiệm về công nghệ; chắc chắn họ chẳng những không gặp khó khăn gì trong việc tìm kiếm việc làm mà còn có thể thành lập công ty và tạo việc làm cho chính bản thân mình".

Những sinh viên này đã báo cáo thành công: một bệnh viện ở Singapore đang vận hành 1 chương trình ứng dụng do đội đến từ Singapore thiết kế. Đội này đánh giá một cách chủ quan về những nhu cầu điều trị phục hồi chức năng của các bệnh nhân đột quỵ. Bên cạnh đó, chính phủ Tanzania có kế hoạch vận hành phần mềm của đội đến từ Đức. Đây là phần mềm phát thảo và đánh giá tài nguyên nước.

"Chúng ta có 1 ứng dụng cho điện thoại Windows 7, nơi có thể thu thập dữ liệu về nguồn nước."

Người thắng cuộc sẽ được công bố vào thứ Tư.
