VOA - American military helicopters landed near the home of Haiti’s president Tuesday to deploy¹ troops and supplies in the capital Port-au-Prince. One group of soldiers was sent to secure² the city’s main hospital. Medical workers there have been working to treat the many people who were injured in last week earthquake. Officials estimate that the earthquake killed about 200,000 people. Also Tuesday the United Nations Security Council agreed to add 2,000 troops and 1,500 more police to the UN forces already in Haiti. The UN’s peacekeeping

chief said the extra³ troops will be used to protect vehicle transporting humanitarian supplies.

Máy bay trực thăng của không quân Hoa Kì đã đáp xuống gần dinh tổng thống Haiti để triển khai binh sĩ và hàng cứu trợ đến thủ đô Port-au-Prince hôm thứ Ba. Một nhóm binh sĩ được gửi đến bảo vệ bệnh viện chính của thành phố nơi các nhân viên y tế đang chữa trị nhiều người bị thương trong vụ động đất tuần trước. Các quan chức ước tính vụ động đất làm thiệt mạng khoảng 200.000 người. Trong khi đó, cũng hôm thứ ba, Hội Đồng Bảo An Liên Hiệp Quốc đồng ý cử thêm 2.000 binh sĩ và 1.500 cảnh sát tham gia vào lực lượng Liên Hiệp Quốc đã có mặt ở Haiti. Người đứng đầu lực lượng gìn giữ hòa bình Liên Hiệp quốc cho hay số binh sĩ đó sẽ bảo vệ những phương tiện vận chuyển hàng cứu trợ nhân đạo.
